Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez participates in the IBM Think Forum 2014

(MIAMI, October 9, 2014) – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez participated in a panel discussion at the IBM THINK Forum 2014 earlier this morning in New York City. The topic of the panel discussion was Social.Mobile.Security The New Engagement Model.

Mayor Gimenez spoke on how Miami-Dade County is utilizing digital platforms to build a closer and more trusted relationship with residents.

“Citizen engagement through the creation of Mobile apps allows for reporting of crimes, expanding the coverage audience for Amber Alerts, BOLOs (Be on the Lookout), and Stolen Vehicles, by increasing community interaction through social involvement,” said Mayor Gimenez. “Using emerging technology will help change our model from simple reporting, to engagement, to developing the appropriate system that expands and encourages citizen involvement.”

Mayor Gimenez was the only elected official asked to participate in the IBM THINK Forum. He was joined by Josh Silverman, President of Consumer Products & Services for the American Express Company, and Bridget van Kralingen, Senior Vice President of Global Business Services for IBM. The panel discussion was moderated by Becky Quick, Co-Anchor of Squawk Box and Anchor of On the Money on CNBC.

The IBM THINK Forum explores how leaders from across the globe are making the most of this new era of enterprise innovation. The THINK Forum is a platform for sharing best practices on leading through disruptive change, challenging traditional business models and adapting cultures to create lasting economic value.
