Celebrating the Achievements of Miami-Dade County Students
Through the Mayor's Shining Scholars Awards, you have the opportunity to nominate high-school students from public, private, and charter schools throughout Miami-Dade County who have displayed extraordinary perseverance throughout their academic careers.
- The Pursuer of Excellence Award
Criteria: This award will be given to a well-rounded student who, throughout their academic career, has exhibited an extraordinary eagerness to improve themselves academically, professionally, and/or civically in order to achieve more.
- The Unstoppable Scholar Award
Criteria: This award will be given to a student who has displayed extraordinary perseverance in moving forward in their academic career.
- The Emerging Leader Award
Criteria: This award will be given to a student who has inspired positive change in others and the community.
Each month, three students will be selected for one of three awards:
The selected students will be spotlighted in the Mayor's Shining Scholars' "Hall of Stars" and recognized at a Board of County Commissioners meeting, where they will receive their awards.
With that goal in mind, we are launching "Actively Investing in Miami-Dade: An Initiative to Educate, Engage, and Retain Our Future Workforce" (the A.I.M. Initiative). As part of the A.I.M. Initiative, the Shining Scholars Awards were created in 2012, to showcase the talented young people right here in our community by recognizing those students who strive to improve themselves and achieve more.
From a community-wide perspective, it is vital that we have an educated workforce to lead our 2.6 million residents towards the prosperous future that we all seek for Miami-Dade County. As community leaders, we have a responsibility to guide our young people to realizing their full potential and to celebrate their achievements along the way.
