MDFR’s US&R Team Deployed to Haiti

 


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's (MDFR) Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) Team, Florida Task Force One (FLTF-1), will be deployed to Haiti on Thursday, January 14, 2010. The team will depart from Miami International Airport on board a chartered Miami Air flight.

The team, consisting of 80 members and seven search and rescue canines, specializes in 19 areas including: command and control; technical search; structural assessment and stabilization; planning/technical information; advanced medical care, including physicians and medical specialists; hazardous materials mitigation; tactical communications; logistics support; and safety and rescue specialists.

The US&R Team's mission is to respond to natural and man-made disasters by providing search and rescue support, medical support, communications and damage assessment, and to coordinate the distribution of relief supplies. They have been deployed nationally and internationally for multiple disasters including the Oklahoma City bombing, World Trade Center collapse, Hurricane Katrina, and earthquake responses in Columbia and Turkey.
