On Saturday, February 7, 2009, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) hosted its annual Fire Rescue Expo at Tropical Park (7900 SW 40th Street). The Expo, which ran from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., delivered fun for the entire family and gave visitors an opportunity to meet us face-to-face. People of all ages were provided with an up-close and inside look at MDFR through interactive fire and rescue demonstrations, informational booths and static equipment displays. The community also had an opportunity to meet the men and women behind our world-class operation and experienced the challenging scenarios that MDFR firefighters encounter on a daily basis.
In addition, MDFR held its first fire station cook-off competition at this event. Firefighters from various stations throughout the county presented visitors with a sample of their signature dishes. The public voted and crowned Sweetwater's Station 29 as the champion. This event, which attracted a crowd of approximately 10,000 people, was a huge success.
