MDFR Applicants Can Update Certification Information
MDFR is accepting updated certification information. Please send an e-mail and provide the type of certification and the certification number. Only State of Florida Firefighter, EMT and Paramedic Licenses are accepted by MDFR. Along with the type of certification and the certification number, applicants must provide the last four digits of their social security number. We will only accept this information by email and we will send a confirmation email to acknowledge we have updated your information. Do not forward a copy of the certification as we will request the documents when applicants are processed.
Please remember that you must update your personal data such as address, phone number and email address on line by accessing the Careers Home Page. We will not be updating this data.
MDFR has received grant funding to hire six certified firefighter paramedics. Pursuant to federal requirements qualified veterans will receive hiring preference.
Firefighter applicants may have incorrectly received e-mail notifications stating that you were not selected for this position. This e-mail was sent in error and should be disregarded. Although there are no Firefighter classes scheduled at this time, all Qualified applicants remain eligible for processing. You will be contacted directly by MDFR if you are selected to proceed in the process.
Applicants who took the audio/written test must access the Jobs website or call 305-375-0297 to retrieve their test results.
Test results are either Qualified or Did Not Qualify. There are no other results or scores. A Qualified result means that the applicant passed the test and may continue in the process. Applicants who Did Not Qualify did not pass the test and are unable to continue.
Applicants will not receive any notification until recruit classes are scheduled. Once a class has been scheduled, all qualified Veterans will be processed first as legally required.
Only applicants who have been selected to be processed will be notified by email with detailed instructions as to the next steps in the process. Updated certifications will only be accepted for these applicants.
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department does not have any classes scheduled at this time. There will be no further action until classes are scheduled.
A professional firefighting career with MDFR includes highly specialized work in the protection of life and property through the provision of firefighting and emergency medical rescue services. Duties include, but are not limited to, combat firefighting, emergency medical rescue work, public education and fire prevention activities.
Application process
New applications for the position of firefighter are not being accepted at this time.
Annual Salary Range:
Approximately $35,000 to $65,000 (subject to periodic change)
Requirements for Employment:

Must be 18 years of age at time of application.

Must have a high school diploma or GED.

Must not have been convicted of a felony nor of any misdemeanor directly related to the position of employment sought, nor have pled "nolo contendere" to any charge of a felony.

Must submit fingerprints to be processed by the FDLE and the FBI.

Must have a good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation.

Must be a non-user of tobacco or tobacco products for at least 1 year immediately preceding application, as evidenced by a sworn affidavit.

Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Florida Driver's License and have maintained a good driving record.

Must be able to work variable shifts, including shifts that require 24 hours of consecutive duty.

Preferences:

Preference will be given to qualifying U.S. military veterans.

Preference will be given to graduates of the Miami-Dade County Academy of Fire Rescue (MDCAFR) high school magnet program.

Preference may also be given to State of Florida Certified Paramedics, EMT's, and/or Firefighters.
