Scott Mendelsberg serves as MDFR's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Assistant Director overseeing the department's Budget, Planning and Grants Management bureaus.  He joined MDFR in January 2005 as its CFO.

After obtaining a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Miami, he joined Miami-Dade County in 1988 and worked in the Capital Improvements Division of the County Manager's Office.  In January 1990, he became a budget analyst in the county's Office of Management and Budget (OMB).  Following his 5-year tenure at OMB, Assistant Director Mendelsberg became the Executive Assistant to the Seaport Director at the Port of Miami.  Three years later, he returned to OMB as Senior Budget Analyst and later Budget Coordinator, assisting departments such as MDFR, Miami-Dade Police, Miami-Dade Corrections and others in preparing annual operating and capital budgets.  In his spare time, Assistant Director Mendelsberg teaches American Government at the University of Miami.
