**New applications for the position of firefighter are not being accepted at this time.
Information for applicants who applied to MDFR during intake from May 21, 2005 to June 6, 2005
Next Step:
Applicants who took the recent written/video examination have received notification if they qualified for the next step in the application process.
Out of those individuals, an eligible list of potential candidates has been established. If an applicant has been placed on this list, they will be notified to report to a mandatory orientation.
If an applicant has experienced any updates or changes in status since submitting their application (such as change of address, new certifications, additional education, etc.), they are to bring written proof of that change to the mandatory orientation.
State of Florida Certified Firefighters:
If you took the exams and have received written notification, you must bring proof of Firefighter certification to the mandatory orientation indicated on your letter. Please provide the original certification. If you do not have proof of certification, you will be required to take the TABE test and submit those scores.
If you are not certified by the State of Florida as a Firefighter, you must take the TABE test at Miami-Dade College North Campus so you can then take the first-responder course. To be accepted by Miami-Dade College, you must obtain a score of 10.0 or higher in each category (except Spelling). TABE scores are valid for two years from the original test date.
State of Florida Certified EMTs and/or Paramedics:
If you took the examinations and have received written notification, you must bring your original EMT or Paramedic certification to the mandatory orientation listed on your letter. If you do not have proof of certification, you will be required to take the CPT test and submit those scores.
If you are not certified by the State of Florida as an EMT or Paramedic, you must take the College Placement Test (CPT) at the Miami-Dade College Medical Campus, so you can begin the EMT course. In order to be accepted by the college, you must obtain a score of 83 or higher in the reading and English portion of the CPT and a score of 72 or higher in the Algebra portion of the CPT.
College Graduates:
In order to be exempted from the TABE and CPT tests, college graduates must obtain a letter of exemption from Miami-Dade College. In order to obtain this letter, please submit a sealed copy of your original transcripts from the institution from which you graduated.
Please note: If you are unable to obtain test scores or exemption letters prior to your orientation date, you must still appear at the orientation as scheduled in the letter you received.
If you have NOT received written notification:
Those who have not received written notification have not been selected for processing at this time. You will be notified by US Mail at a later date if you are selected for future processing.
Additional questions that applicants have about the hiring process will be answered at candidate orientations.
