    Fire Chief's Office

The Director of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR) serves as the Fire Chief for the areas of unincorporated Miami-Dade County and 35 municipalities. He is responsible for formulating departmental policy and coordinating activities to achieve established goals and objectives. Immediately accountable to the Fire Chief are the Deputy Fire Chief, the Program & Staff Review Division, the Employee and Community Affairs Division, Internal Affairs, the Media and Public Relations Bureau, and the Office of Legislative Affairs.

    • Deputy Fire Chief
As second in command, the Deputy Fire Chief implements MDFR's goals and objectives by providing overall departmental management and coordination. Assistant Chiefs/Directors overseeing four major areas report directly to the Deputy Fire Chief. These include: Operations; Technical and Support Services; Budget, Planning & Grants; and Administrative Services.

    • Program and Staff Review
The Program and Staff Review (PSR) Division provides accountability tracking, performance improvement, strategic planning, policy formulation and investigative services for MDFR. This division adds value to the department by performing operational reviews and providing recommendations to maximize operational efficiencies and institute best practices.  PSR is comprised of four sections:  Strategic Planning, Policy and Procedures, Audit, and Comprehensive Accountability Program.

    • Employee and Community Affairs
The Employee and Community Affairs Division (ECAD) is committed to providing educational and humanitarian services to both our internal and external communities. The ECAD provides the public and MDFR employees with fire and life safety planning education. In addition, this area is committed to partnering with faith-based and community organizations in an effort to provide a far-reaching and caring network of continued service to all residents and visitors.  ECAD also oversees the County's Youth Firesetter Program and our nationally recognized ElderLinks initiative. ECAD provides an array of support services to MDFR employees experiencing personal crisis and military deployment.

    • Internal Affairs
The Internal Affairs Bureau is tasked with impartially investigating customer complaints, whether internal or external. This bureau reviews all complaints diligently with the main objective of gathering the facts to determine the disposition of the complaint.  MDFR Internal Affairs ensures that the rights of all involved parties in the complaint process are never compromised.  This bureau also tracks all complaints of a less serious nature delegated to MDFR personnel for investigation.

    • Media and Public Relations
The Media and Public Relations Bureau continuously ensures quality local, national and international media coverage of MDFR-related incidents, initiatives and events 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The bureau also provides life-saving public safety information to more than two million residents of Miami-Dade County while promoting increased public awareness of the many services the department offers.

    • Legislative Affairs
The Legislative Affairs Office liaisons with the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners and initiates resolutions on behalf of the department; coordinates state legislative proposals; ensures community council representation; and facilitates the processing of correspondence for the Fire Chief's Office.
