The Technical and Support Services section is comprised of four divisions: Fire Prevention, Communications, Logistical Services, and the Training and Safety Division. All report to the Assistant Chief for Technical and Support Services. The objectives of this area are to reduce fire loss, injury and death, and provide required training to employees. It also maintains the support mechanisms that provide the necessary tools, supplies, data, and maintenance required to support efficient fire and rescue operations.
- Fire Prevention
MDFR’s Fire Prevention Division, Office of the Fire Marshal, provides fire mitigation services aimed at reducing the incidence of injury, death, and property loss attributable to fire. Those services are comprised of land use; permitting; inspection; fire investigation; and special-events staffing for residents, visitors and businesses of unincorporatedMiami-Dade County and 35 municipalities, as well as the Port of Miami-Dade, Miami International Airport and auxiliary airports.
- Communications
The Communications Division provides timely dispatch of equipment and personnel to mitigate both emergency and non-emergency public requests for service. The division sustains the vital links to the communications network, both radio and telephonic, throughout the department, the community and other agencies.
- Logistical Services
The Logistical Services Division is responsible for much of the department's physical infrastructure. It oversees the research, development, acquisition and maintenance of all MDFR apparatus and equipment. This division directs the activities of the Research and Development Unit, the Mobile Equipment Bureau, and the Inventory and Supply Bureau. The Research and Development group studies all new products and procedures, writes
specifications, makes purchases and tests all new equipment prior to deployment. The Mobile Equipment Bureau oversees the management of all department vehicles. The Inventory and Supply Bureau is responsible for the acquisition, inventory, storage, and distribution of equipment and supplies throughout the department.
- Training and Safety
The Training and Safety Division has the responsibility of managing two critical areas within Miami-Dade Fire Rescue through four functional areas: In-Service Training and Certification, Recruit Training, Probationary Development, and Occupational Safety and Health. This division is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of the department's training programs which include in-service personnel training, recruit training, driver certification, and officer development.
In addition, the Training and Safety Division is tasked with ensuring the safety and health of MDFR personnel in the daily workplace, on fire rescue incident scenes, and during all training activities, through the development and implementation of department safety plans, policies and procedures.
