    2011 Junior Lifeguard Program
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue ocean lifeguards will provide the young men and women of our community (ages 9-17) a sound aquatic background and acquaint them with the hazards of ocean swimming.  Students will be exposed to an environment that will teach them courtesy, respect, discipline, and sound morals.

Youths interested in learning the responsibilities of ocean lifeguards may try out and register at either Crandon Park or Haulover Park Lifeguard Headquarters.  A birth certificate must be presented for proof of age, and parents must complete the registration form and waiver provided.

This process begins at 10 AM on June 11 for the first session, which runs June 13-July 6 at Crandon and June 14-July 7 at Haulover.  Tryouts and registration are scheduled at the same time and locations on July 16 for the second session, which runs July 18-August 10 at Crandon and July 19-August 11 at Haulover.

Applicants must possess a basic swimming ability to pass the following:  swim at least 100 yards with a steady stroke without stopping under 2 minutes; swim 30 feet underwater without stopping; and tread water for 3 minutes.  Program fee is $125.00 for each child.

For more information, call 786-336-6982 or 786-336-6992.
