The mission of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department's Training and Safety Division is to provide effective and realistic training for fire-rescue professionals based on national fire-rescue service standards, information analysis, and emergency response demands.
We believe in the achievement of "Excellence Through Training and Safety" by employing dedication, teamwork, and the application of the best methodologies and techniques in fire-rescue education.
The Training and Safety Division is responsible for the training and the continued education of the department's uniformed and non-uniformed personnel. It develops and provides department-wide training for new recruits, and probationary and permanent employees.
The division is comprised of four main units: Recruit Training Bureau, Probationary Development Office, In-Service Training Bureau, and Safety Office.
The main functions of the division are as follows:
- Trains new recruits and evaluates them during probation
- Certifies and evaluates employees in critical performance areas
- Develops, provides, and conducts drills and classes for incumbents
- Develops, provides, and conducts officer development programs
- Develops, provides, and conducts other training programs for ongoing professional development
- Serves as a resource for departmental training needs
- Protects and promotes employee safety
- Coordinates the restricted duty program
