An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is an electronic device that analyzes the heart's rhythm and is designed to deliver a defibrillation shock if it detects that one is required. Anyone who has successfully completed a nationally recognized CPR/AED course can safely and effectively use an AED. The AED is portable, easy to use, and a vital link in the chain of survival for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. One of the main keys to success in the chain of survival is early use of an AED. This key is the driving force behind the PADD initiative in Miami-Dade County.
Miami-Dade Heartwatch: Your Community in Action
Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Medtronic Emergency Response Systems and the American Heart Association, are leading the way to a safer community by establishing Miami-Dade Heartwatch, a PADD program that places AEDs in public and private gathering places throughout the County. This partnership would not be complete without the participation of Miami-Dade residents. Citizens are a vital link between the onset of a cardiac emergency and the arrival of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responders.
