MDFR 2009 EMS Provider of the Year

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) is Florida's 2009 EMS Provider of the Year. The Florida Department of Health chose MDFR from among several top emergency medical service (EMS) providers in the state.

This award honors an EMS provider for taking a leadership role in areas of quality assurance/improvement, patient care, public access, medical control, disaster preparedness, public education and/or training in Florida. MDFR won for currently possessing one of the most comprehensive EMS programs in the nation, which also strongly supports the fulfillment of the Florida EMS Strategic Plan.

MDFR also took top honors in the fire-rescue video category, winning the 2009 Video of the Year award for a segment shot and produced by MDFR's Video Services Unit on the 2009 Fire and Rescue Expo. MDFR's video was selected for best depicting this year's EMS Week Theme, "EMS: A Proud Partner in Your Community."

The Florida Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services is responsible for the statewide regulation of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics; EMT and paramedic training programs; and ambulance services and their vehicles. This marks the 19th year the Bureau of EMS has honored outstanding Florida EMS organizations and individuals who make a positive impact on local EMS throughout the state.
