The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, Fire Prevention Division is responsible for the Certificate of Occupancy (CO) Inspections for all commercial buildings whether it is new construction or remodeling of existing construction.
The Fire Department will only inspect commercial buildings (apartment buildings and town homes included). Single-family homes are not inspected.

Before Requesting an Inspection:
- Present plans for project to the Miami Dade Fire Engineering Bureau
- Obtain plans review approval prior to construction
- Receive Fire Department Application number (10 digits)
Scheduling of New Construction Inspections:
Certificate of Occupancy inspection requests cannot be granted without an application number. Requests must be called in between 7:30 a.m. and noon at 786-331-4798. The number of daily inspections is determined by the Captain in Charge for the day based on the availability of Inspectors.
SRI (Special Request Inspections):
SRI Inspections are subject to availability of personnel. There is no guarantee the inspection will be performed on the date requested. To request SRI forms call 786-331-4798. Fax forms before 1 pm for same day inspection to 786-331-4936.
Scheduling of New Construction Meeting or Questions:

Meeting will be scheduled for a weekday, from 8 a.m. to noon.
In order to apply for an inspection, the occupant/contractor must have a Permit Card and a set of plans that have been stamped and approved by Miami Dade Fire Engineering Department, located at 11805 SW 26 St. The contractor or his/her designee must have the permits and plans on site at the time of all inspections. A Fire Alarm System Agent (FASA) card must be posted and on site at the building entrance, advising of the date and time for fire alarm inspection and testing. Any outstanding fees must be brought current before requesting an inspection.
