Employee and Community Affairs Division (ECAD)
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Employee and Community Affairs Division (ECAD) provides supportive employee and community outreach programs to MDFR employees and the Miami-Dade residents we serve. Employee and Community Affairs outreach includes a Military Support Program, designed to extend assistance to our employees who serve in the Armed Forces, and an expanding MDFR Chaplaincy, offering emotional and spiritual support beyond traditional emergency care to residents and our employees and their families. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Junior Cadets
The Junior Cadet Program is a co-ed program targeting young adults between the ages of 14 and 18 who want to explore a possible career in the fire rescue service. Students must be 14 years of age and have graduated from the eighth grade. Cadets explore all aspects of the fire rescue profession through training, drills and ride-alongs, which allow the Cadets to ride on front-line operational fire rescue units as crew members. Safe Haven for Newborns
All staffed Miami-Dade fire stations are designated Safe Havens for Newborns. Fire station personnel will accept newborns with no questions asked, and provide transportation to the nearest hospital for medical care and referral to a participating private adoption agency that will arrange for placement of the newborn with a waiting family. The Safe Haven for Newborns program allows mothers, fathers or others in possession of an unharmed newborn, approximately three days old or less, to leave them at designated Safe Havens with no questions asked, totally anonymous, and free from fear of prosecution.
