The Miami-Dade County Academy of Fire Rescue (MDCAFR) is a public service education academy that provides academic, career and technical education in a cooperative effort between Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), Miami-Dade College (MDC) and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). Through this unique collaboration, MDFR has designed a program that will allow students to obtain valuable professional certifications, and potential college credits that can open the door to careers in the fire rescue and emergency medical services, as well as opportunities for higher education.
The three (3) year program is comprised of both intensive classroom training and practical task assignments that will give cadets a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of firefighting and emergency medical services. Formal classroom instruction as well as practical skill components provide each cadet with exposure to fire operations and responsibilities performed by experienced firefighters in Miami-Dade County.
