The Facilities Maintenance Unit is comprised of three groups who are responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and repair of 56 facilities, including Miami-Dade Police Department owned buildings and leased facilities, as follows:
The Headquarters Facilities Maintenance Unit is responsible for the maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repairs of the MDPD Headquarters and Midwest Station Complex. The Unit performs preventive maintenance tasks, including simple and complex air-conditioning unit maintenance, on the physical plant, and responds to the individual and operational needs of MDPD employees and offices in the complex, such as requests for service, including air conditioning climate control concerns, lighting, electrical installations, and cubicle work station reconfiguration. The Unit is also responsible for the Headquarters Complex Security Control Room, which is responsible for monitoring the following: fire alarm and life safety systems, security card access systems, closed circuit security television monitors and camera equipment, and the controls of the automated building systems, and monitoring of the metal detectors at the Headquarters’ Building main entrance. Additionally, personnel verify and log all entrants through access gates that lead into the Headquarters Complex.

The Training Bureau Facilities Maintenance Unit is responsible for the maintenance, repair, construction and day-to-day operational needs of 30 buildings comprising the MDPD’s Training Bureau Complex. Duties include preventive maintenance and repair of all air conditioning units, lighting, electrical systems, plumbing fixtures, infrastructure, parking, and grounds.
The Off-Site Facilities Maintenance Unit handles all of the maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair requirements of eight MDPD owned buildings and 18 leased properties. The unit performs preventive maintenance tasks on various components, including air-conditioning units, and responds to service requests to meet the individual and operational needs of the department and the occupants at the various facilities. The requests include painting, replacement of ceiling tiles, repairs or replacement of locks and hardware, duplication of keys and re-keying locks, plumbing, installation of new equipment, electrical work and lighting, air-conditioning repairs, assembling and replacement of systems furniture, preparation of facilities for hurricanes, and after storm repairs. The unit objectives are to meet all needs of the MDPD facilities.
