The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Sexual Crimes Bureau is committed to assisting victims of sexual crimes by facilitating services and serving as a liaison to community agencies and the criminal justice system. The State of Florida’s Attorney General’s Office provides guidelines for the fair treatment of victims. The Sexual Crimes Bureau investigates allegations of sexual crimes while also offering assistance and guidance to victims.
The Sexual Crimes Bureau is responsible for assisting victims of sexual crimes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The goal of the bureau is to provide a professional and sensitive environment to victims while offering knowledgeable and current information about services and agencies available to assist victims. To facilitate these services to the victims, the Sexual Crimes Bureau has Victim Services Coordinators available as needed. The Victim Services Coordinators work along side detectives to offer victims emotional support and crisis intervention. The Victim Services Coordinators follow up with victims to ensure that their emergency needs are met and provide referrals for long term needs, such as counseling, shelter, and legal assistance.
The Sexual Crimes Bureau and Victim Services Coordinators work closely with the community through their involment in community awareness events and education for children and adults about safety and sexual assault. We make ourselves available to offer the best service possible to our community. We work closely with community-based organizations, hospitals, other municipalities and the Rape Treatment Center to ensure quality service. Victim Services Coordinators have completed an Advocacy Core Training Certification by the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence in accordance with Florida Statutes.
