Domestic Crimes Bureau - Order for Protection
Domestic Violence is a crime! No one, not even someone you live with, has the right to beat you or threaten you with violence.
The law protects you if you are being abused or threatened by your spouse, former spouse, or another family member who is or was living in the same household as you, or by a person with whom you have a child in common. If you are being physically or sexually abused by a family or household member, or are in danger of such abuse, get help!
If you are the victim of abuse of threats of abuse, call 911!
- If you are in fear of violence and have no where to stay, call Safespace Shelter at 305-758-2546 for emergency information 24 hours a day.
- Next, if you wish to ask the State Attorney to file criminal charges, call 305-547-0150.
- You also have the right to go to court and file a petition requesting an injunction from protection from domestic violence. The Domestic Violence Intake Unit of the State Attorneys Office will assist you in obtaining an Injunction for Protection Against Domestic Violence. You may contact them for information 24 hours a day at 305-349-5888.
If you wish to talk to a counselor concerning your domestic violence relationship, call the Domestic Crimes Bureau at 305-418-7200 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 p.m., Monday through Friday, and ask to speak with a Victim Services Coordinator.
Repeat Violence means two incidents of assault, battery, sexual battery, or stalking committed by a person against any other person, one of which must have occurred within 6 months. If you are the victim of repeat violence, you may ask the State Attorney to file criminal charges by calling 305-547-0150.
If you feel you can no longer stay at home and need a safe place to stay, call Safespace Shelter at 305-758-2546.
You may also have the right to file a petition requesting an Injunction for Protection Against Repeat Violence by calling the Domestic Violence Intake Unit at 305-349-5888.
