The Media Relations Bureau (MRB) is responsible for coordinating the MDPD's response to media inquiries. Several high-profile incidents have provided MRB detectives with the opportunity to become highly proficient in this specialized field.
News releases are prepared and transmitted through a computerized fax system and live interviews are conducted in English and Spanish. In 2004, MRB personnel responded to 157 scenes, issued 426 news releases, and gave 3,691 interviews.
MRB detectives also accompany visiting television and motion picture production companies to ensure the finished product complies with departmental regulations and portrays accurate information. These include films and television programs such as America's Most Wanted, Animal Planet, The Fugitive, Discovery Channel, and the widely viewed CSI Miami.
MRB coordinates the departmental Employee Recognition Program and submits nominations for external law enforcement recognition awards sponsored by local, national, and international organizations.
Public information officer training seminars are offered to emergency response personnel from throughout the country. These programs are highly successful and will continue to be provided on an annual basis.
Housed within the Bureau, the TIPS line (305-471-TIPS) for Crime Stoppers of Dade County is answered by officers from the Miami-Dade and Miami Police Departments.
Crime Stoppers is a community action program that encourages citizens to become involved in the fight against crime. This partnership fosters a better and safer place to live. |
