The Warrants Bureau is responsible for serving felony warrants in Miami-Dade County issued by the local criminal justice system and all jurisdictions nationwide. The Bureau is comprised of four Felony Apprehension Squads, the Extradition Unit, and the Operations/Administrative Unit. During 2004, Warrants Bureau personnel received 18,628 warrants, made 10,319 arrests, and closed 14,756 active warrants.

The Felony Apprehension Squads' primary responsibilities are to locate and apprehend individuals with outstanding felony warrants. Additional duties include the service of writs of bodily attachment, ex-parte orders, juvenile pick-up orders, grand jury indictments, and penal warrants. Squad members also assist in returning wanted subjects from other jurisdictions to Miami-Dade County for judicial proceedings.

The Extradition Unit tracks and coordinates the arrest and return of felony subjects from around the world who are wanted in Miami-Dade County. The Operations/Administrative Unit provides support services such as warrants research and verification.

During 2004, the Bureau participated in two ongoing multi-agency operations with the U.S. Marshals Service: the Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, which targets fugitives wanted for high impact violent crimes including, but not limited to, homicide, felonious assaults, robbery, rape, and sexual exploitation of children; and the Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team that targets fugitives wanted for drug-related federal and state warrants.
