Homeland Security Bureau (HSB)
The HSB has the primary responsibility for gathering, analyzing, disseminating, maintaining criminal intelligence and homeland security initiatives for the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and providing pertinent information to concerned federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. In addition, the HSB conducts security and vulnerability assessments and identifies the security needs of critical infrastructures and sites within Miami-Dade County that could be potentially targeted by terrorist.
HSB is divided into three operational sections:
Intelligence Operations Center (IOC)
The IOC is the primary liaison, research and analysis hub. IOC staff monitors information as it is received from local, state, federal and open sources. Pertinent information is subsequently disseminated to the appropriate personnel.
Infrastructure Protection Section (IPS)
The IPS has the responsibility of coordinating the Department’s efforts in combating domestic terrorism. This includes conducting security and vulnerability assessments and identifying the security needs of critical infrastructures.
Intelligence Section (IS)
The IS consists of the Intelligence Unit (IU) and the Technical Operations Unit (TOU). The IS has the responsibility for gathering, analyzing, disseminating and maintaining intelligence information for the Department. The TOU provides technical support in the form of sophisticated electronic equipment and operational expertise for all entities of MDPD.
Signs of Terrorism - Recognizing Suspicious Activity
Signs of Terrorism
If you have an emergency call 911
Should you experience any of the below listed activities you are encouraged to call 305-471-TIPS or
1-866-58ALERT (25378)
Unusual activities do not always mean that terrorist activity is occurring. However, you know what is normal for your neighborhood and community.
If an activity appears to be outside the norm or is frightening, let law enforcement officials know. It’s your responsibility to watch out and report. It is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to investigate and take further action, if necessary.
It is very important to give accurate information and descriptions when reporting suspicious activities (i.e., possible persons involved, the situation, vehicles involved, what made you concerned, and the location of the suspicious person(s)). Try to remember the exact time and place you observed the suspicious activity.
Please remember that terrorists DO NOT come from any one particular race, ethnic group or religious affiliation.
