The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is pleased to announce that Officer Maikel Miret has been awarded the departmental Lifesaving Award and selected Distinguished Officer of the Month for July 2007. Officer Miret joined the Department in January of 2005, and is assigned to the Kendall District.
On March 2, 2007, at approximately 5:17 p.m., Officer Miret was dispatched to 11395 SW 79 Street, reference a sick/injured person call. A man had collapsed while playing basketball.
Upon arrival, Officer Miret observed the victim lying in a supine position on the basketball court. He immediately assessed the situation and found the man to be in respiratory and cardiac arrest. After advising the dispatcher, Officer Miret initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and continued until the arrival of the rescue units.
Once on the scene, Rescue personnel were able to palpate a pulse and the victim began breathing. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical, but stable, condition.
Officer Miret is commended for his alertness, quick response, and dedication to duty in saving a citizen’s life. He is a credit to the Miami-Dade Police Department and the community he serves.
