One Gun, One Arrest, One Grand

Mayor Carlos Alvarez Launches Gun Bounty Program

On May 24, 2007, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez in partnership with Miami-Dade Police Department’s Director Robert Parker and Jack Sullivan of Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, launched the Gun Bounty program.

The Gun Bounty program makes it possible for residents to get a $1,000 reward for turning someone in with an illegal gun.  The goal is to get weapons and criminals off the streets by reaching out to individuals who know someone with an illegal firearm.

“While other communities around the country have implemented Gun Bounty programs, no community is tackling the issue of gun violence quite like Miami-Dade County," said Mayor Alvarez.  We are attempting to get guns off the streets by marketing to the very individuals who know exactly where illegal guns are.”

Anyone who has information can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477, and report a person illegally possessing a gun.  Once the person has given detailed information and the offender is arrested, the tipster will be eligible for a $1,000 reward.  All calls will remain confidential and no one will ever ask your name or phone number.  The Miami-Dade Police Department is committed to a quick and thorough ending of any problems involving illegal gun activity.

For additional information on the Gun Bounty Program, contact Sergeant Gloria Watson at (305) 471-1935, or e-mail at gawatson@mdpd.com.
