Grants and Legislative Section:

The Grants and Legislative Section of the Miami-Dade Police Department is charged with identifying and applying for funding sources available to law enforcement agencies from various local, state, and federal resources. This initiative is done in concert with various County-based entities for the purpose of augmenting the general fund available to the Department in order to expand and enhance services to the community we serve. 

Section personnel regularly organize and host meetings with a representatives of departmental element(s), and any other resources initially known, to identify a project director and establish a working group.  They routinely assist in unifying resources, establishing partnerships, and obtaining additional documentation needed for the grant.  In addition, they work closely with representatives of the Miami-Dade County Office of Strategic Business Management (OSBM) to seek advice on the submission of the grant and for further coordination with the Administrative offices of Miami-Dade County.  Once a funding source is deemed in the best interest of the Department and County, Section personnel prepare the Resolution and Agenda items for the Public Safety Committee and Board of County Commissioners.

Upon receipt of a grant award certificate, the Grants and Legislative Section staff ensures that the appropriate entities are notified and they continue to work closely with the respective project manager throughout the life of the grant.  Section personnel also liaison with the Budget, Planning and Resource Management Bureau to ensure that all financial requirements of the grant are accomplished.

The Section is also tasked with preparing and submitting law enforcement-related items for inclusion on the Board of County Commissioner Agenda.  Items relevant and germane to the mission of the Miami-Dade Police Department are submitted and presented by various Departmental Command Staff personnel.
