How the Ordinance Works
Every registered alarm user is allowed three "free" false alarms within their registration period. False alarm response fines are imposed beginning with the fourth false alarm within a registration period.
Fines Schedule
- Fourth false alarm: $50.00.
- Fifth false alarms: $100.00.
- Sixth and each additional false alarm: $200.00 each.
- Failure to register an alarm system: $50.00.
- Violation of Alarm Company responsibilities: $100.00.
- Clerk of Courts Surcharge for each fine: $10.00
Failure to Register an Alarm:
The fine for a false alarm from a non-registered alarm system is $50.00. An alarm user will be considered in violation of the alarm ordinance if they:
- Fail to register their alarm system(s)
- Fail to pay the imposed false alarm response fees
Failure to register your alarm system or pay any outstanding fines will place the concerned location on No Response; the Miami-Dade Police Department will no longer respond to audible and silent intrusion alarms. We will continue to respond to hold-up, ambush, panic, and silent duress.
Alarm Installers
The alarm contractor (installer) is responsible for providing new customers with a registration form at the time of sale or before installation. This form should be filled out with the homeowner/business name, address, and alarm company information prior to being given the property owner.
Before placing a residential or non-residential alarm system into service, every alarm system must be registered with the FAEU.
Contracting and monitoring companies conducting business in Miami-Dade County must register annually.
Please inform the FAEU of any change regarding your alarm company, mailing address, or emergency contact information within 10 days.
Alarm users and/or alarm companies must notify the FAEU in writing when there is a takeover or change in ownership.
