    Seminars: Forensic Nursing Injuries & Death Investigation

    This program is designed to address some of the same syllabus topics as our premier Death Investigations program.  However, it is presented from the perspective of the forensic nurse.  This course is for RNs, S.A.N.E. and trauma nurses, LPNs, and others in the nursing or investigative field who wish to pursue this relatively new arena of nursing.  32 hours of continuing education credit is awarded for this program.  Topics and experiential activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Principles and national guidelines for death investigation.
    • Understanding of the various types of traumatic deaths.
    • Postmortem changes in bodies.
    • Forensic odontology and bite-mark evidence.
    • Overview of medical examiner operations and a class 1 trauma center.
    • Legal considerations and evidence preservation.
    • Ritualistic crime, Santeria, Palo Mayombe, Voodoo.
    • Child abuse & maltreatment; elderly abuse.'
    • Patterns of suicide.
    • Head trauma.
    • Mass disaster management.
    • Practicum on a homicide scene processing and investigations, with homicide and crime scene detectives.
    • Hands-on assisting with autopsies.
