Prosperous neighborhoods are made of citizens that have equal access to the necessities that can assist them with changing their current condition and begin creating a better quality of life.

All citizens should have equal access to

• economic development funds,
• adequate education,
• fairness in the criminal justice system,
• availability of funds for business ventures and/or employment opportunities,
• affordable health care,
• decent housing, and
• the sensitivity of the public and private sectors to bring about the systemic change necessary to quell the illusion of inclusion.

Metro-Miami Action Plan Trust (MMAP) is providing part of the solution to mobilizing Miami-Dade's black community!

To address the prevention and intervention of youth criminal behavior, Metro-Miami Action Plan Trust (MMAP) will host Miami-Dade County Teen Court - Youth Speaking Out Against Violence Conference on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008.  The Conference workshops will address violence in Miami Dade County and provide tools that will enable youth to identify negative behavior that contributes to criminal activity in our community.

Metro-Miami Action Plan Trust Housing Assistance Program (MMAP HAP) will conduct two workshops and accept applications from Lenders, Mortgage Brokers, Closing Agents, Real Estate Brokers, and Sales Associates interested in becoming certified MMAP HAP participants.  This program is designed to provide First-Time Homebuyers with up to $7,500 in down-payment and closing costs assistance in the form of a forgivable, zero percent interest, non-amortized, deferred mortgage loan.

MMAP was one of the proud sponsors of the Fanm Ayisyen Nan Miyami (FANM) 2nd Annual Conference, Women and Reproductive Health: "Breaking Barriers and Building Coalitions".  The event was held on March 7th, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Florida International University - Biscayne Bay Campus.  The primary focus of the conference was on Reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, Domestic Violence, Breast, Ovarian, and Cervical Cancers and their impact on the health and well-being of women and their families.

On March 7th, the FANM 16th Annual "Spirit of Justice Gala" also took place.  The purpose of the gala was to raise money for FANM so that they may continue to provide after school programs; community outreach; connect individuals to health and medical services; and, also be able to provide support and social services to women and children who are victims of domestic violence. 

FANM was founded in 1991 as a private, nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization with a mission is to empower Haitian women and their families socially, economically, and politically.  They also facilitate immigrant families to adjustment to South Florida and the United States.

MMAP distributed promotional materials at the conference this year as a vendor sponsor.  The conference was filled with educational workshops to enlighten all the participants.  The conference brought together many community leaders to identify barriers women of color and their families face in our community. Metro-Miami Action Plan Trust and the Florida Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute for Nonviolence are very proud to announce that four students who successfully completed Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Academy were honored at the Miami-Dade County Commission Awards Ceremony on Thursday, February 21st, 2008 for meritorious achievement.

These students excelled against tremendous odds and the MLK, Jr.  Leadership Academy guided these students back onto the right path boosting their academic and social skills in order for them to flourish upon returning to the Miami-Dade County Public School system.  They are now highly sought after student-athletes soon to attend top universities.

On Tuesday, March 12, 2008, these students will be honored again by the Miami-Dade County School Board.  The event will take place at 12:45 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County School Board Administrative Building, 1450 NE 2nd Ave o Auditorium 1st Floor.  We would like to extend an invitation to the public to attend and support these wonderful students.
