MMAP was one of the proud sponsors of the Fanm Ayisyen Nan Miyami (FANM) 2nd Annual Conference, Women and Reproductive Health: "Breaking Barriers and Building Coalitions". The event was held on March 7th, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Florida International University - Biscayne Bay Campus. The primary focus of the conference was on Reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, Domestic Violence, Breast, Ovarian, and Cervical Cancers and their impact on the health and well-being of women and their families.
On March 7th, the FANM 16th Annual "Spirit of Justice Gala" also took place. The purpose of the gala was to raise money for FANM so that they may continue to provide after school programs; community outreach; connect individuals to health and medical services; and, also be able to provide support and social services to women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
FANM was founded in 1991 as a private, nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization with a mission is to empower Haitian women and their families socially, economically, and politically. They also facilitate immigrant families to adjustment to South Florida and the United States.
MMAP distributed promotional materials at the conference this year as a vendor sponsor. The conference was filled with educational workshops to enlighten all the participants.
