County Signalization Improvements
|
- Countywide Signalization and Other Infrastructure-Related Service Improvements
The Miami-Dade County Public Works Department provides a variety of infrastructure-related services needed to improve our community's standard of living. Among these are construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, sidewalks, street signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, street lights, and storm water drainage facilities used every day by the people of Miami-Dade County. On the site below, you will find information on traffic signals and signs, the toll collection on both the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeways, and details about other programs.
- Traffic Signal Synchronization
Traffic signal synchronization to improve traffic flow will be implemented countywide between now and 2008 on all 2,600 traffic signals. This new $100 million Advanced Traffic Management System will increase the capacity of most county arterials by about five percent and reduce side-street delays. Additionally, system maintenance calls and response times will be reduced. The ATMS will also enable implementing new control strategies, such as signal prioritization for bus rapid transit.
- Reverse-Lane Travel
Reverse lanes are used during rush hours to help move traffic predominantly headed in one direction. These lanes help keep traffic moving when the normal number of lanes is not enough, causing backed up traffic.
To date, a feasibility study for reversible lanes has been completed for the NW 7th Avenue corridor from NW 119th Street to NW 6th Street with positive results, recommending advancement to design. The Public Works Department is currently seeking a project management consultant to implement the design of the reversible lanes to expedite the project.
