Dear Residents,
It has been a tremendous privilege over the last two years to serve as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. I'm proud of everything we have accomplished, especially in advancing the prosperity agenda, which was my top priority as Chairman, and establishing the Chairman's Council for Prosperity Initiatives to craft legislation. I promised to concentrate on helping the most vulnerable and needy of this community, and we have done so by passing many legislative items aimed at closing the income inequality gap and improving the quality of life by addressing the three pillars of: economy, housing and transportation. While much remains to be done, the work we have done has laid the foundation for a more prosperous and fair economy for all of our residents.

Chairman Monestime tackles youth violence
Miami-Dade County has witnessed too many deaths due to youth violence in its inner-city neighborhoods.
Chairman Monestime recently met with the chairs of the Miami City Commission, the School Board and the Children's Trust to discuss community-based collaborative efforts to address youth violence.
"We need to collaborate with other government agencies to formulate a long-term funding plan and establish a framework to allow a locally led youth gun violence initiative to develop from within the community," Chairman Monestime said. "Such action is needed now, because there can be no prosperity where young people are killing young people."

Northside Transit Village provides housing next to Metrorail station
A new housing community is providing affordable housing and easy access to public transportation for dozens of Miami-Dade County residents.
The attractive eight-story Northside Transit Village is adjacent to the Northside Metrorail Station and features a host of amenities for residents, including a community room, fitness center, computer lab and tot lot.
Northside Transit Village represents a public-private partnership between Miami-Dade County and the developer. The County's Housing Finance Authority issued mortgage revenue bonds for its construction, to be paid back by the developer.
