  • Resolution urging the Florida Legislature to enact comprehensive Assisted Living Facility legislation during the 2013 session to protect the elderly and other vulnerable populations that reside in such facilities. File #121830
  • Resolution urging Congress and the federal government to increase funding for the Head Start and Early Head Start program to reduce the number of children on the waiting list. File #121831
  • Resolution urging the Federal Government to pass the Vulnerable Veterans Housing Reform Act of 2012, which allows certain disabled veterans to qualify for additional federal housing benefits. File # 121800
  • Resolution supporting the completion of a Project Implementation Report (PIR) which addresses key obstacles to freshwater flows and implement meaningful ecological and economic benefits by restoring the Everglades. File #121703
  • Resolution directing the Mayor to review the February 2006 recommendations of the Elder Abuse Task Force and to advise on what has been implemented from those recommendations within the County, and by the Florida legislature and other State of Florida administrative departments. File #121690
  • Resolution directing the Mayor to conduct an educational campaign to inform the public of the County’s current regulations against the dumping or blowing of grass clippings and other yard trash onto roads, drains, gutters and sidewalks.   • Resolution urging the Florida Legislature to ban texting while driving. Just in 2011 there were 25,000 distraction accidents in Florida, with more than 8,200 of them in Miami-Dade, which may include drivers who were texting at the moment of the accident. File # 121522
  • Resolution urging the Florida Legislature to reinstate “for cause” absentee ballot requirements that were in place prior to 1997. File #121726
  • Resolution urging the Florida Legislature to pass the Urban Job Creation Investment Act or similar economic development legislation which would create incentives for businesses to invest. File # 122033
SW 57 Avenue Construction Project
Commissioner Sosa joined Representative Erik Fresen in meeting with business owners along SW 57 Avenue (between Coral Way and 8 Street) to hear their concerns with the roadway construction project managed by the Florida Department of Transportation. The project is scheduled to conclude in April 2013.
Latin Builders Association Awards
Commissioner Sosa attended the Latin Builders Association 2012 Awards Luncheon where Superintendent Alberto Carvahlo was honored as Public Administrator for the Year and City of Miami Commissioner Francis Suarez was honored as Elected Official of the Year.
West End Park Tree Planting
Commissioner Sosa joined City of Miami Commissioner Frances Suarez at the unveiling of a tree canopy planting at West End Park where volunteers helped plant over 85 native tree species to benefit our community and environment.
Kristi House Emergency Drop-In Shelter
Commissioner Sosa joined Senator Marco Rubio during a tour of the new emergency drop-in shelter acquired by Kristi House. Since 1994, Kristi House is dedicated to respecting, protecting and healing the children and families that pass through their doors. The event served to raise awareness and discuss government efforts on the human trafficking problem in Florida and across the country.
Swimming Lessons in Hialeah
Commissioners Sosa presented a check for $1,980 to the City of Hialeah to sponsor swimming lessons for children in memory of Jenny Nyugen, a 12-year old girl who drowned in April 2011. Each year, Florida loses more children ages 1-4 to drowning than any other state.
Beacon Council Recognition
The Beacon Council recognized Commissioner Sosa for her leadership and dedication to economic development during their Annual Meeting. The Beacon Council recognizes leaders by awarding beacons as symbols of guidance and inspiration. Aside from serving District 6, Commissioner Sosa chairs the Committee for Economic Development and Social Services.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Commissioner Sosa attended the American Cancer Society's campaign Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Tropical Park. Get involved! Help create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays. Visit www.cancer.org.
Miami Dolphins donate to American Cancer Society
Commissioner Sosa attended the Miami Dolphins game against the St. Louis Rams for the presentation of a $5,000 donation to the American Cancer Society by the Miami Dolphins Foundation. The donation will contribute to the purchase of mastectomy bras.
Miami Dolphins visit Barbara Hawkins Elementary
Commissioner Sosa joined the Miami Dolphins at Barbara Hawkins Elementary for the completion of a landscaping project, which included planting flowers, spreading mulch, laying stones and painting the school's Butterfly Garden.
Free Flu Shots for Seniors
Commissioner Sosa hosted her annual free flu immunizations for seniors at the Miami Springs Recreation Center. Thank you to the staff of the Department of Health for their friendly service to our seniors!
Miss Hispanidad
The winners of the 2012 Miss Hispanidad pageant visited Commissioner Sosa  to receive a certificate of commendation for their achievement. Since 1982, the Miss Hispanidad pageant has celebrated the beauty and rich culture of Hispanic women in the United States.
Coral Terrace Elementary
Commissioner Sosa visited Coral Terrace Elementary for the unveiling of a newly renovated library granted to the school by Target as part of the 2012 School Library Makeover program. The new library features 2,000 new books, furniture, carpet and shelves, and a complete technology upgrade, including new iPads. The program also provides seven new books for each student to take home.
