I already have first aid training so I don't need that portion of the curriculum, can I skip it?
No, all of the attendees, including police officers, firefighters, and doctors must complete the curriculum in its entirety.
Can I miss one of the classes I'm scheduled for and make it up another day?
Classes must to be taken as scheduled to assure that students meet the thirty day completion criteria. If you are unable to complete them consecutively then you are advised to wait until a class is scheduled that accommodates your needs.
I'm confined to a wheelchair; can I still participate in the classes?
We have previously graduated students confined to a wheelchair so physical limitations should not stop you from taking the classes. While most of your time will be spend in a classroom setting, the final day of training takes place at a specialized training facility. At this facility, the terrain is all gravel and rock so though you would be required to access the site for the classroom portion, it would be at your discretion to participate in the hands-on portion of fire suppression and collapsed structure rescue.
My son/daughter is sixteen. Can he/she take the class with me?
Students must be eighteen years of age or more to take the CERT course.
How soon after class will you be calling on me?
The CERT members self-activate when their team area is impacted by a disaster. The County does not normally activate CERT teams; however, we have called upon CERT members to assist with traffic control as well as food and water distribution sites after a disaster.
How will I be notified if you need my help with traffic control or distributing food and water?
All communication with CERT members is done through email. The team leader of cohesive teams is notified and is asked to pass the information to the team members. Individuals with no team affiliation are emailed as well.
