The Miami-Dade County Code is the primary local governing legislation for Miami-Dade County.

The Commission on Human Rights, also established by Chapter 11A of the County Code, is authorized to investigate discrimination complaints filed by citizens of Miami-Dade County under federal, state, and local laws.

The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigates discrimination complaints under federal laws and regulations, and is a clearinghouse of information.

The Florida Commission on Human Relations investigates discrimination complaints based on Florida statutes.

The U.S. Department of Labor is a resource for labor-related issues.

The Office of Special Counsel for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices is a resource for issues related to immigration status.

The Miami-Dade County Human Resources Department is a resource for employment-related issues.

For issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Miami-Dade Office of ADA Coordination deals with all County residents. For Miami-Dade County employees and job applicants, the Human Resources Department ADA Unit handles issues of Reasonable Accommodation.

Occasionally, allegations of wrongdoing rise to the level of illegal or dangerous activities that seriously impact the citizens of Miami-Dade County.  The County has a detailed policy regarding what is known as whistleblowing, including procedures, rewards, and prohibition of retaliation. Resources on whistleblowing include the Office of the Inspector General, the Commission on Ethics & Public Trust, and the Human Resources Department.
