On November 28, 2006, I was honored by my colleagues by being selected to serve as chairman of the Board of County Commissioners for the next two years. It is with great enthusiasm and dedication, that I have accepted this opportunity to serve our diverse community. I look forward to leading the Commission through the challenges that lay ahead.

Commissioner Barreiro visits to Rebecca Towers in Miami Beach

Chairman Barreiro has been working closely with Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen who has requested a federal appropriation of $7.5 million dollars for a County wide beach erosion control project. Together, they have hosted several meetings between members of the South Florida Congressional Delegation, Miami-Dade County and Miami Beach officials and the US Army Corps of Engineers to discuss beach re-nourishment.

Miami-Dade Commissioners travelled to Washington D.C. last February to meet with federal officials to present their critical priorities and appropriations list related to 2008 legislative agenda.
Chairman Barreiro and local elected officials meet with Colombian Vice President Francisco Santos
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners (BCC), Chairman Bruno A. Barreiro, Commissioners Jose "Pepe" Diaz, Rebeca Sosa, and Florida State Representative Juan C. Zapata offered their support to Colombian Vice President Francisco Santos Calderón in his efforts to obtain the approval of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Colombia. During the meeting, Chairman Barreiro presented Vice President Francisco Santos the Key to the County and a Distinguished Visitor certificate.
