This Division has two major components which serves the Office of the Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners.
Protocol
Protocol prepares appropriate official instruments of tribute for formal presentations encompassing a vast assortment of functions of local, national and international consequence.
The decision to issue proclamations should be reserved for the recognition that the Mayor and Miami-Dade County Commissioners represent all citizens. It is an acknowledgement given to the efforts and commitment of individuals and organizations within the County who enhance our community.
Protocol facilitates and coordinates the presentation of a variety of official instruments of tribute, including: Certificates of Appreciation, Commendations, Congratulatory Certificates, Distinguished Visitor Certificates, Keys to the County, Proclamations, Service Awards and Sympathy Resolutions.
These instruments of tribute bear the official Seal of Miami-Dade County and the signature of the Mayor, Chairperson of the Board of County Commissioners and one or more Board members, depending on the occasion. By virtue of their official nature and the prestige of the office of the elected officials signing the document, these instruments extend genuine validation upon an individual, organization or event in an official capacity. These documents can be presented at the Board of County Commissioners' meetings by the Mayor and/or Commissioners on behalf of the County.
Additional responsibilities of the Protocol section include:
-
Advising the Office of the Mayor, the Chairman and Board of County Commissioners on all matters relating to protocol;
-
Honoring visiting dignitaries, extraordinary civic achievements and outstanding individuals or group contribution to the economic, social and cultural well-being of Miami-Dade County.
If you are planning to welcome or recognize a dignitary, read about how to request an official document or award or study our Protocol Procedures Manual (Updated manual coming soon).
