Miami International Airport (MIA)

The first Commercial Airport in the United States to obtain International Standard (ISO) Certification for its Environmental Management System is located right here in Miami-Dade County and has been used as a model around the world.  The Aviation Department was the first in the nation to achieve ISO-14001 Certification, a rigorous Environmental Management System certification process, and has attained international recognition for its environmental achievements.  The Aviation Department has made key environmental improvements in almost every area imaginable: recycling, energy efficiency and conservation, green buildings, emissions reductions, habitat preservation or restoration, green purchasing and more.
