(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade County Office of Sustainability is participating in Green the Block National Day of Service on Friday, September 11, 2009 on a four-block area of Liberty City along N.W. 7th Avenue starting at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (N.W. 62nd Street), to N.W. 66th Street ending at Thena Crowder Elementary School. The event is being sponsored by Miami Dade College's (MDC) Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center, along with Green for All, the Hip Hop Caucus and The Big Blue & You.
"Events like this demonstrate how committed Miami-Dade County is to every aspect of sustainability," said Susanne M. Torriente, Director for the Office of Sustainability. "It's not just about the County's responsibility, but rather, the goal is a community network dynamic that brings everyone-residents, businesses and government- together to go green and ensure a viable future."
As part of the day's events, the County will be participating in the Green the Block Resource Fair and Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management Director Kathleen Woods-Richardson will speak to participants about the importance of recycling at 10 a.m. in the Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center, 6300 N.W. 7th Avenue, 1st floor conference room.

10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Greening Your Environment - Read Aloud for elementary school Students
10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Green the Block Resource Fair - featuring vendors, educational information, products and services to support "green" lifestyles
