Property Appraiser Garcia to Hold News Conference on 2010 Tax Roll

Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia will hold a news conference Friday, July 1, following the release of the Certification of Taxable Values to the County, municipal governments, School Board and other taxing authorities.

The news conference will take place at 2:00 PM in the Press Room of the Miami-Dade County Commission Chambers at the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street.

On May 31, in keeping with the requirements of state law, Mr. Garcia released estimates of taxable values to the taxing authorities. Those estimates revealed a mixed picture of property values. For the fourth straight year there was an overall decline in property values countywide. However, some areas saw a stabilization of values and even modest appreciation. Other areas continued to experience sharp declines.

The Estimates allowed the taxing authorities to begin preparation of their 2011-2012 budgets.

The data Mr. Garcia releases this Friday will allow them to continue budget preparations and begin setting millage (tax) rates. That process involves public budget hearings which the law requires the taxing authorities to hold.

In addition to the aggregate taxable value information he releases to the taxing authorities, Mr. Garcia will submit Miami-Dade's Tax Roll to the Florida Department of Revenue in Tallahassee for review and approval.
