Property Appraiser Along with School Board and City Leaders to Announce Initiative to Fight Homestead Exemption Fraud


In continuing efforts to aggressively investigate Homestead Exemption Fraud in Miami-Dade County, Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez-Cantera will be announcing a new initiative with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and 9 cities across the county to identify tax cheats. The goal is to identify homestead fraud that ultimately affects funding for schools, law enforcement, fire departments and libraries. This joint effort will utilize existing resources to identify lost revenue without incurring additional costs. The Property Appraiser’s Office anticipates additional municipalities will participate in the near feature.
