Did you Miss the March 1st Deadline?

Pedro J. Garcia, Miami-Dade County’s Property Appraiser, would like to let you know that it’s not too late to apply for a property exemption(s).

Although the March 1st deadline has passed, the Office will continue to accept exemption applications.  However, you will need to complete the “Extenuating Circumstances” form in order for us to process the application.

Throughout the Exemption Filing Period, which started in January, our Office held nine events visiting different cities across the county where we helped over 1,000 constituents.  Additionally, during that same time period in our Downtown office and South Dade Government Center we saw over 9,000 visitors, answered over 10,000 phone calls (between 3-1-1 and our Office) and also responded to almost 4,000 emails.

Furthermore Property Appraiser Garcia stated, “This year approximately 21,000 people applied for Homestead Exemption online versus less than 9,000 paper applications; a significant increase from year-to-year.  The accessibility of our website has made it easy for property owners to apply online and eliminate the need to come to our offices.”

We encourage those who still need to apply not to delay, go online at http://www.miamidade.gov/pa or they can visit us Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., at our Downtown Miami (111 NW 1st Street, 7th Floor) or South Dade Government Center (10710 SW 211th Street, 2nd Floor) offices.
