Deadline Extended to File your Propery Tax Exemption

Miami-Dade County, FL – The property tax exemption filing deadline is Monday, March 1, 2021; however, you may still file for your property tax benefits. The application process now includes an “Extenuating Circumstance Form”, which will need to be filled out along with a regular application. This form requires all property owners filing after March 1, 2021 to detail the reasons why they are filing late.

Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia continues to urge all property owners to file for their benefit(s), such as homestead, senior, veterans and other exemptions to help reduce their property taxes, especially those who may have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Property owners who have not had an opportunity to file for Homestead Exemption or Portability may still be able to do so online or by scheduling an appointment online to visit our offices. Applications, including the Extenuating Circumstances Form, can be found at www.miamidade.gov/pa.

“Miami-Dade County property owners, especially those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, need to know it is not too late to file for their property tax exemption. If they believe they qualify for an exemption, I strongly encourage them to apply online by visiting our website at www.miamidade.gov/PA or they may visit one of our locations,” said Property Appraiser Garcia.

For questions or concerns about an exemption(s) status, visit our website at www.miamidade.gov/pa or make an appointment online to visit in person at our offices in Downtown Miami (111 NW 1st Street, Suite 710) and South Dade Government Center (10710 SW 211th Street, 2nd Floor), Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
