Dedication Ceremony to Celebrate the Completion of Recent Improvements at Deering Point

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Join the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners Vice-Chair Lynda Bell at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Deering Point for the dedication of the completion of their recent improvements, including the new restroom building and shelters. Deering Point is located at 17350 Old Cutler Road, adjacent to the C-100 Canal at the south end of the Deering Estate at Cutler.

The site known as "Deering Point" is a small, 3 ½ acre portion of the Deering South Addition. Deering Point is the only site within 13 miles that offers free public access to the Bay, providing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors from the southern portion of the County.  The improvements made to Deering Point will provide the general public with additional opportunities to enjoy the recreational and educational experiences offered by Biscayne Bay.

A recently completed improvement to Deering Point is the new 875 square feet restroom building with men's and women's facilities. The building is ADA accessible from both the exterior and interior of the building, and from the parking area.  An exterior bicycle rack was installed for visitor use and there are also two water fountains on the exterior porch area of the structure. Other improvements include three large shelters with decorative stone columns, drainage improvements, paving and a rich palette of native landscaping to compliment the site.

The total cost for the restroom project was $198,000 funded by the Building Better Communities Bond (GOB).

Deering Point is open seven days a week, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, from sunrise to sunset. Parking is free. Deering Point is located adjacent to the C-100 Canal at the south end of the Deering Estate at Cutler.
