(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Park and Recreation was awarded the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN) Innovation Award for exemplary work with the development of its Parks and Open Space Systems Master Plan and its partnership effort with Miami-Dade Public Library System to make park and library facilities more accessible to residents. The award will be presented on Friday, February 27, 2009, noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel, 1825 Griffin Road, Dania, FL.
Utilizing the Parks Open Space Systems Master Plan, which calls for the systematic enhancement of public spaces, Miami-Dade Parks and Miami-Dade Public Library System are currently working on the development of two new library/park sites, a first for Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade Parks is also working to upgrade facilities which adjoin libraries to remove physical barriers such as parking areas or fences at several locations creating a seamless synergy between these two valuable public assets. This is all in addition to long-standing and on-going programming partnerships.
The SEFLIN Awards Luncheon and Program is an annual event recognizing individuals, groups and institutions that support cooperation between all types of libraries in Southeast Florida. The Innovation Award recognizes an innovative library activity, program or service based on collaborative efforts between libraries or libraries and the communities they serve. This year's award nominations reflect accomplishments during 2007/2008.
