(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Park and Recreation Department and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan, District 1, will host a dedication ceremony to celebrate the new lighting system at Country Village Park Skate Court on Tuesday, June 1, at 9 a.m. Country Village Park is located at 6550 NW 188 Terrace in Miami.
Miami-Dade Parks opened the skate court last year at Country Village Park and since its opening has proven to be one of the most popular features of the park with skateboarders and in-line skaters of various ages. The addition of lighting will allow for year-round evening use of the courts, which closes nightly at 8:30 p.m.
The total project cost was $141,400 which was funded by the Quality Neighborhoods Improvement Program (QNIP) and the Building Better Communities Bond (GOB).
"We strive to provide recreational facilities and programs that cater to the interests of our constituents," said Jack Kardys, Director of Miami-Dade Park and Recreation Department. "The addition of the skate court last year brought in many youth from the neighboring communities that previously had no place to practice their sport. With the addition of lights, these skaters will now be able to practice into the evening hours," he added.
