(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Dog owners everywhere will have the opportunity to celebrate their love for their dogs by casting their beloved pet's name and paw prints in wet cement, akin to a Hollywood Walk of Fame for dogs, at Tropical Dog Park's Lake Promenade on Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Miami-Dade Parks' Paw Print Fundraiser.
Sponsored by Pet Supermarket, Canine Counselors, Natural K9 Supplies, Knowles Animal Clinics, and Shorty's Bar-B-Q, the free pet-friendly event is open to the public and will feature activities including pet-care products and samples, dog training information booths, photo opportunities with your pet, and a Miami-Dade Animal Services information booth. In addition, Shorty's Bar-B-Q will be serving pulled pork sliders with a side of cole slaw for a small donation, and all proceeds will benefit the fundraiser.
Dog owners can purchase an 18" x 18" cement tile and cast their dog's paw prints in wet cement, creating a pet legacy, at a cost of $100. Once dry, this cement tile will then become a permanent fixture of the promenade inside Tropical Dog Park. All proceeds benefit the Parks Foundation, which provides support for the maintenance and enhancement of County dog parks. For a list of County dog parks, please visit www.miamidade.gov/parks. For more information, or to pre-reserve your Paw Print Tile via phone, please call (305) 755-7804. To reserve your Paw Print Tile online, visit the Parks website, click on the "Fun at Parks" tab, select "Parkstore," and follow the prompts. Please be sure to bring your confirmation receipt with you to the event.
The two-acre dog park is divided into two areas - one for larger dogs weighing over 35 pounds and one for smaller dogs weighing less than 35 pounds. Both areas feature play equipment, such as a tire jump, window jump, king-of-the-hill ramp, dog walk and others. The dog park also features dog comfort stations with doggy drinking fountains and water sprays, pooper scoopers to keep the areas clean, and a shade structure that overlaps both sides.
The event is free and all dogs wearing current Miami-Dade County tags are welcome. There is no obligation to buy the tile. The Dog Park at Tropical Park is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to sunset. Tropical Park is located at 7900 SW 40 Street. To access the dog park, patrons are encouraged to enter the park through the Miller Drive entrance near the hill on the north side of the lake.
