(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Park and Recreation Department announces Target as the sponsor of the 2011 Noches Tropicales free concert series. This season features internationally recognized artists Conjunto Progreso on January 14, Latin Jazz with Kiki Sanchez on February 11, Lissette on March 25, and Merengue with Tony Swing on April 15. All concerts are free and begin at 8 p.m. at Tropical Park, 7900 SW 40th Street, Miami.
The sponsorship by Target helps to continue the commitment of Miami-Dade Parks in providing quality arts experiences accessible for the entire community. "The arts bring communities together by creating experiences that cross cultures, inspire ideas, and enrich our daily lives," says Jack Kardys, Director of Miami-Dade Parks. "Through the partnership of Target with Miami-Dade Parks for Noches Tropicales, together we are making sure the arts are accessible to children and families."
Started in 2005, Noches Tropicales is a series of free concerts held at Tropical Park dedicated to celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Hispanic music and dance. Since its beginning, Miami-Dade Parks has presented 15 concerts ranging from traditional Cuban zarzuelas to Argentinean tango to Brazilian jazz to contemporary Cuban music and a theatrical presentation of the Shakespeare classic, Romeo and Juliet in Spanish.
In February 2008, Latin Grammy nominee Amaury Gutierrez took the stage at Noches Tropicales. "Performing in an open venue such as Tropical Park enables families to bring every member - young and old - to enjoy the performances. It allows kids to run around and enjoy the park while the adults listen to the music," says Gutierrez. "It has been the most beautiful experience I have had since coming to this country four years ago. As shown by the turnout, our community loves and needs family-oriented cultural events such as Noches Tropicales."
