The Deering Estate at Cutler Hosts Archaeology Day in Celebration of Florida Archaeology Month


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 
Each year in March, statewide programs and events celebrating Florida Archaeology Month are designed to encourage Floridians and visitors to learn more about the archaeology and history of the state, and to preserve these important parts of Florida's rich cultural heritage. In celebration of Florida Archaeology Month, the Deering Estate at Cutler will host "Archaeology Day" on Saturday, March 19th from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be a variety of programs and activities for the entire family such as: lectures by prominent archaeologists, "Book Nook by the Bay", an Artist Village Workshop, and walking tours of the historic Tekesta Trail to the Cutler Burial Mound. All programs and activities are free with regular Estate admission - $12 for adults and $7 for children (ages 4-14). Food and beverages from the Mango Café will be available for an additional fee.

About the Deering Estate at Cutler
The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami-Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue in Miami. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation. Historic house tours are offered daily with admission to the Estate. EcoAdventure Tours are also offered throughout the year for an additional fee.
