The aim of the program, which is for beginners, is to introduce children to the fundamentals of soccer. This program will teach children how to dribble, juggle, shoot, and pass the ball in a mini soccer setting which is played on a much smaller playing field than regular soccer, thus promoting confidence and self-esteem in a young child's abilities.
Plans are being considered to expand the program to Saturday morning sessions and other parks in the future.
The free program is also available to elementary public schools wishing to incorporate a beginner soccer program into their existing after-school programs. Schools will be able to reserve up to two mini soccer fields weekdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. free of charge (upon availability). Schools interested in signing up, should call Alan Georgeson at 305-393-5230 and request a sign-up form.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity again to put our Soccer 5 Foundation to work in the community to help all kids learn about soccer and gain confidence in the sport in a safe, fun environment, and my thanks go to Soccer 5 and its coaching staff for making this possible," said Alan Georgeson.
"It's been an asset to the community and to the Miami-Dade County Parks Department to have Soccer 5 and The Soccer 5 Foundation provide valuable and professional soccer training and facilities at Kendall Soccer Park," said Jack Kardys, Director of Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department. "We are delighted to see that more kids, who probably couldn't have participated otherwise, will now have access to learn this great international sport played at our parks, thanks to Soccer 5 and The Soccer 5 Foundation," he added.
"I'm excited to have a program like this available to all kids without regard of their playing ability, and this is what makes our coaching techniques unique," said Soccer 5 Coach Denys Valenzuela.
