Community Classes at the Deering Estate at Cutler

(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Deering Estate at Cutler offers a variety of enriching community classes in a relaxing atmosphere and historic setting. Classes include Fencing, Beginning Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, and Music for Youth. For more information, or to register, please call the Deering Estate Ticket Office at 305-235-1668 ext. 233.

Fencing

The Miami Fencing Club offers participants the unique experience of fencing, the fast and athletic sport of sword fighting. In a fun, safe environment guided by highly experienced coaches, participants will learn footwork, lunges and escape moves utilizing the foil, epeé, and sabre. All levels are welcomed and no experience is necessary. Equipment is provided. Ages 8 and older. Cost: $80 for a 4 week session plus a one-time $12 annual registration fee.

For beginning and intermediate participants. The intention of this class is to move in a consistent flow. Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement." The technique utilizes the flow of one's inhalations and exhalations in coordination with the poses, better known as Asanas. This style covers a broad range of yoga and its strength is in its diversity. There is no single philosophy, rulebook, or sequence that the teacher has to follow, so there is a lot of room for individual personalization and quirks to come through. Students should bring a yoga mat, blocks and straps. Cost: $60 for a 6 week session plus a one-time $12 annual registration fee.

Instructors: The Greater Miami Youth Symphony (Lead Instructor for Deering Estate Classes: Laura Wilcox)
Students ages 4-10 will be introduced to string instruments - violin, viola, cello - and will learn to read and play music. Students must bring their own instruments. Cost: $50 for a 5 week session plus a one-time $12 annual registration fee.

The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami-Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue in Miami. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation. Historic house tours are offered daily at 10:30 am & 3:00 pm. Natural areas tours are offered daily at 12:30 pm (October - May).
