Miami-Dade Parks Presents a Free Health & Wellness Fair in Conjunction with its Free Active Adults 55+ Program
On Monday, October 28, 2013, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department hosted a free Health and Wellness Fair for residents age 55 and over at Arcola Lakes Park Community Center, located at 1301 NW 83 Street, in Miami. The event was held in conjunction with Miami-Dade County Parks’ free Active Adults 55+ Program. Participating park partners included Affordable Care Act Navigators, Chen Medical Centers, Doctors at Home, Health Foundation of South Florida, Florida Poison Information Centers of Miami, Florida Senior Medicare Patrol (FL-SMP), the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, the Miami-Dade County Police Department’s Pedestrian Safety Unit, SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders), and WellCare Health Plans.
The above photos display Fair attendees and several park partners. The event included free blood pressure/body mass screenings, exercise demonstrations, on-site voter registration, and healthy aging presentations/resource materials on a variety of health-related topics such as nutrition, fitness, home health care, personal safety, and Medicare. In addition, Miami-Dade County Parks staff registered visitors for its free ongoing Active Adults 55+ Self-Management Activities and Classes, including the Active Adults 55+ Walking Club.
